Dive List

Jamahkiri Koh Tao's Dive Sites have been highly regarded for many years. The island boasts more than 20 dive sites, with a handful being the best dives in Thailand's gulf.

The gulf of Thailand has a handful of exceptional dive sites, all of which lie within one hour of our Thai style wooden boat. When one thinks of the Gulf’s truly fantastic dives, four locations come to mind : Sail Rock, Chumphon Pinnacle, South West Pinnacle and Shark Island.

Sail Rock
Sail Rock is located 25 kilometers from Koh Tao, and is without a doubt the Gulf’s most famous dive site. It is a limestone pinnacle rising from a depth of 40m to 15m above the water’s surface. The most renowned feature on this site is “the chimney,” a vertical swim through which ascends from 18m to 9m. The walls are covered with encrusting organisms and the bottom, at 24 – 40+m is comprised of sand and rubble. This is one of the most common places to see whale sharks. In addition, many types of reef fish, huge schools of jacks, batfish, barracudas, and other pelagics can be seen. Moray eels and banded coral shrimp inhabit the crevices. Whale sharks visit from February until October.

Recommended Diver Level: Intermediate/Advanced
Maximum Depth: 46 meters
Average Depth: 18-22 meters

Chumphon Pinnacle
Chumporn Pinnacle is series of underwater pinnacles roughly 11 kilometers from Koh Tao’s northernmost point. It is completely surrounded by deeper waters ensuring a world class dive site. Regular sightings of Whale Sharks, Grey Reef Sharks and what some people believe to be Bull Sharks make this dive site one of the 'musts' of your trip. The pinnacles themselves are completely carpeted with anemones. schools of batfish, baracudas, trevallies, and fusiliers create a spectacular scene in the surrounding waters.

Recommended Diver Level: Intermediate / advanced
Maximum Depth: 42 meters
Average Depth: 20 meters

Shark Island
Shark Island rests less then one kilometre from our resort. Named after its resemblance to the dorsal fin of a shark, this small rocky island just off the coast of Koh Tao offers some of the most diverse marine life in The Gulf of Thailand. Expect to see several types of Angel, Butterfly, Surgeon, Trigger, Puffer, Porcupine and Banner fishes. Large groupers and barracuda patrol the outer fringes and Black and White Tip Reef Sharks can be spotted on the deeper part of the site. The Southern End of the island boats a beautiful soft coral garden on account of the usually moderate to strong current running there.

Recommended Diver Level: Intermediate/Advanced
Maximum Depth: 40 meters
Average Depth: 16 meters

White Rock
One of the our island’s most accessible dive spots is White Rock. A rugged underwater landscape with large boulders, lots of hard corals, sponges, anemones and prolific marine life. White Rock offers guaranteed sightings of Blue Spotted Stingrays, Moray Eels, Triggerfish and just about any type of reef fish normally found on Koh Tao. It usually offers good visibility, gentle currents and can easily by circumnavigated on one dive. Points of interested are especially the Southern end which offers some dramatic overhangs with a good chance of Puffer and Porcupine fish sightings.

Recommended Diver Level: Novice/Intermediate
Maximum Depth: 26 meters
Average Depth: 12 meters
